If You Have a Waterproofing System You Need Annual Maintenance

Tuesday, October 18th, 2022 by Charles Morrison

The importance of scheduling annual maintenance and what to expect

Your basement waterproofing system, which may include a sump pump, drainage system, dehumidifier, and other parts, works hard every year to keep your basement dry. It gives you the peace of mind you deserve, knowing that a water emergency won't suddenly arise. However, if you don't take good care of your sump pump and waterproofing system now, it might fail you in the future.  Additionally, you will extend the life and performance of a system if the WaterGuard is free of soils and debris that accrue and make pumps work harder.

That's why Basement Systems strongly recommends you have your basement waterproofing system inspected and serviced annually. Not only will regular maintenance help improve the lifespan and function of your waterproofing system, but it can also help to detect any potential issues early - before they lead to a basement flood!

So how does an annual maintenance appointment work? Learn more about the typical steps that Basement Systems service technicians take when conducting maintenance below.

1. Check pump operation

Your technician will determine if your sump pump's float switch, intake, check valve, and impeller are all working correctly. Keystone Basement Systems’ TripleSafe pump unit provides the highest level of protection available from anyone.  Couple that protection with annual maintenance and cleaning and you will ensure the greatest level of protection for your home and personal belongings.

2. Clean the sump pump

Getting rid of sediment and silt in the sump liner will help ensure your system continues to function properly.

3. Change batteries

Your WaterWatch Alarm batteries need to be switched out every year, and annual maintenance is a perfect time for this to get done.

primary and secondary AC/DC device cycles, battery status, power outages, and relative humidity and temperature history from your basement or crawl space.

4. Inspect the discharge line

Making sure your discharge line is clear and that it won't freeze will keep your whole system working year-round.

5. Take care of your dehumidifier

If your basement has a dehumidifier system, your service technician will see if the filter needs to be replaced or if the unit needs to be oiled. Our TimeMachine Data Logger records relative humidity and temperature data from your basement, so your Basement Systems technician can determine if your dehumidifier is working like it should.

Your Basement Systems dealer will also inform you of any additional issues as they perform each of these steps, suggesting further work or possible upgrades if necessary. If you're concerned about the state of your sump pump - or if it's been a while since you've had anyone out to look at it - schedule an appointment today! Basement Systems dealers are available across the country to help serve you.
