To address the issue of rotted wooden deck posts, we implemented a technical solution using concrete sonotubes. These sonotubes were chosen for their durability and resistance to moisture, ensuring a longer lifespan for the deck's foundation. By replacing the wooden posts with concrete sonotubes, we eliminated the risk of rot caused by prolonged exposure to wet soil.
One key advantage of using concrete sonotubes is their cementitious composition, which makes them impervious to moisture and rot. This means that even if the sonotubes come into contact with soil, they will not degrade over time. Additionally, the sonotubes were recessed deep into the ground to mitigate potential movement caused by freeze/thaw cycles. This ensures the stability of the deck's foundation, reducing the likelihood of structural issues in the future.
