3 New Year’s Resolutions For Your Basement
With the flip of the calendar into a fresh year comes everyone’s newest resolutions. Many people probably resolved to lose weight or not be as stressed this year, but have you ever thought about making resolutions to be happier in your home, specifically in your basement? As the space that keeps your home standing, you basement could probably use a couple of thoughtful resolutions, too. We have three resolutions you can make for your basement, so that this year can be a happy one for your household.
Keep It Safe For Your Family
Although you might not need to make a yearly resolution to keep your family safe, your home needs to be maintained in order to prevent danger, and a safe home starts at the foundation. Check the walls of your basement to make sure there is no structural damage or water issues. Even if you have a finished basement, if the foundation is not given proper care, you may still need work done to it. Foundation repair can be costly if you let a small problem get worse and you are putting your family at a higher risk of danger the longer you let it go.
Clean & Organize
To some other areas of the country, Pittsburgh homes are unique because they tend have spacious basements that can be great places for storage. But what ends up happening in many cases is this extra room becomes a dumping ground for everything unwanted in the home rather than a useful, organized space. Make a resolution to your basement storage area that you will keep it clean and orderly, so that not only will it look a little nicer, but you’ll also be able to actually find things when you need to.
There are many different ways to organize your basement and we’ve got some tips on basement storage ideas for you, including some ideas for Christmas decoration storage since you may still need to put those pesky holiday decorations away. Do Some Upgrading
If you have an unfinished basement, you have a whole area under your feet that’s full of potential. You can make it into a more functional and entertaining space for your family: a home gym, game room or even a home theater. Your basement can become the room you want to spend most of your time in. Plus, a finished basement can help increase your home resale value if you ever plan on selling it.
If you already have a finished basement, the upgrades do not have to be as large, but you can still add some things to keep it modern and fresh. A bright new coat of paint or some new rugs and furniture can really transform the room and give you a refreshing new living area for your family.
